Newest Dodge Barracuda Revealed: Features, Design Highlights, and Release Timeline

The Dodge brand continues to captivate muscle car enthusiasts with its latest models. The upcoming Dodge Barracuda is set to make a striking statement. Drawing inspiration from the legendary 1971 Plymouth Barracuda, this vehicle resembles a contemporary Dodge Charger. With a rich heritage, the Barracuda has long been an icon of American muscle cars.

Primed to succeed the Dodge Challenger, the new model is more compact, faster, and more streamlined. While chassis specifics are still under wraps, Dodge appears unlikely to adopt Alfa's rear-wheel-drive platform.

The redesigned Barracuda will feature a lightweight yet sturdy frame, maintaining its classic rear-wheel unibody architecture. It will shed roughly 600 pounds compared to previous versions. The rear unibody design will incorporate dual exhausts, enhancing its powerful sound.

In terms of appearance, the new Barracuda will sport a low-slung profile and a narrower stance. The interior provides seating for four and integrates modern technology for improved comfort and connectivity.

The cabin boasts high-quality leather seats and a driver-centric cockpit for maximum control. Exterior enhancements include a sleek radiator grille, use of lightweight materials such as aluminum alloys, and weight reduction with Co2-composite parts.

While earlier Barracudas were equipped with HEMI engines, the new model is expected to feature turbocharged 2.0 or 2.4-liter engines, generating between 270 and 330 horsepower with 300 lb-ft of torque. The top version is rumored to feature a 3.8-liter V8 delivering nearly 600 horsepower, positioning the Barracuda as a rival to the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. With rear-wheel drive and drag-racing capabilities, this muscle car aims to excel on the racetrack.

Anticipated to debut in early 2018, the Barracuda is expected to be priced around $40,000.
