The new Ford Explorer lineup includes several trim levels designed to suit various preferences. These are the base Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. The standard Explorer features a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Available options include a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6. All models come standard with front-wheel drive, with an option for all-wheel drive. Since its major redesign in 2011, the Explorer has received few updates until the 2017 refresh, which brought modern styling and additional features.
In 2017, the Explorer introduced the SYNC 3 infotainment system, replacing the older My Ford Touch system. The XLT trim is popular among buyers, starting at $33,775, and offers more amenities such as power seats, keyless entry, and push-button start. Positioned above the base model, the Limited trim costs roughly $8,000 more and includes advanced technology options.
The Sport trim, priced at $45,355, features off-road management systems, hill descent control, a sport suspension tuned for performance, all-wheel drive, and towing capabilities. Many features from the Limited are optional on the Sport, available for an additional $2,965. The range-topping Platinum trim, at $53,235, provides high-end safety systems like collision warning with automatic braking, parking assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alerts, rain-sensing wipers, inflatable rear-seat belts, and cross-traffic detection.
