O’Reilly Auto Parts: Your One-Stop Shop for Vehicle Maintenance

Since 1957, O’Reilly Auto Parts has been a prominent name in automotive retail, offering a wide range of auto parts, accessories, tools, and supplies for all vehicle types. Serving both professional mechanics and DIY car enthusiasts, the chain has expanded from a single store in Springfield, Missouri, to over 5,100 locations across 47 states, including Hawaii and Alaska.

Founded by Michael Byrne O’Reilly, who began his career in title examination in St. Louis, the business was built up by his son Charles and grandson Chub, transforming it into a leading auto parts supplier in the U.S.

Following a 1957 reorganization, Charles and Chub O’Reilly launched their own enterprise, opening their first store in Springfield. Sales reached $700,000 in 1958 and grew steadily over the years, hitting $7 million by 1975 with nine stores and a large distribution center in Kansas City. In 1993, the company went public on NASDAQ (ORLY) and expanded through key acquisitions, such as Hi/Lo Auto Supply in 1998, adding 182 stores and a Houston distribution center. Continued growth included acquiring KarPro Auto Parts in 2000 and Mid State Automotive Distributors in 2001. The 2008 purchase of CSK Auto added over 1,200 stores, positioning O’Reilly as the third-largest auto parts retailer in the U.S.

Today, O’Reilly operates more than 5,147 stores nationwide, with plans to open an additional 200 locations, reaffirming its dedication to delivering exceptional service and accessible auto parts across the country.
